How to Use

Dosage

Your dose will be determined by a doctor based on your body size; for adults, it's typically 12 mg/m² for 3 days or 8 mg/m² for 5 days, and for children, 10-12 mg/m² for 3 days.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you Zavedos as a slow injection into a vein.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, which is typically 12 mg per square meter of body surface area for adults or 12 mg per square meter for children, depending on the treatment plan.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decrease in blood cell counts
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Inflammation of mucous membranes, mouth sores
  • Diarrhea, stomach pain or burning feeling
  • Fever, headache, chills
  • Infections
  • Loss of appetite
  • Hair loss
  • Red colored urine
  • Slow or fast heartbeat, heart failure, irregular heartbeat, heart muscle disease
  • Bleeding in the digestive tract, stomach pain, general bleeding
  • Abnormal liver function test results
  • Rash, itching
  • Skin sensitivity to radiation therapy
  • Vein inflammation, blood clot in a vein
RARE
  • Abnormal ECG results
  • Heart attack
  • Esophagus inflammation, colon inflammation
  • Dehydration
  • Blood poisoning (sepsis)
  • High uric acid in blood (gout symptoms)
  • Leukemia
  • Darkening of skin and nails
  • Hives, inflammation of subcutaneous tissue, tissue death, shock
  • Brain hemorrhages
  • Problems with the heart's electrical system, pericarditis, myocarditis
  • Stomach erosions/ulcers
  • Life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Redness of limbs or extremities, blood clot, facial redness and hot flashes
  • Shortage of all blood cell types
  • Syndrome caused by tumor breakdown (tumor lysis syndrome)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Zavedos if you are allergic to idarubicin or similar medicines, or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver, kidney, or heart problems.
  • Your bone marrow may become very weak, leading to fever, infections, or bleeding.
  • Zavedos can affect your heart months or even years after treatment, so tell your doctor if you get any heart symptoms.
  • This medicine can make your urine red for 1 to 2 days after taking it, which is normal.

  • Do not breastfeed while taking Zavedos and for at least 14 days after your last dose.
  • Both men and women must use reliable birth control during treatment and for several months afterward, as this medicine can affect fertility and harm an unborn baby.
