How to Use

Dosage

The usual daily dose at the start of treatment is 100–150 mg. You can take a 100 mg prolonged-release tablet once a day or a 75 mg prolonged-release tablet twice a day. For mild symptoms and long-term treatment, 75–100 mg once a day is usually enough.

Method

Swallow Voltaren Retard tablets whole with a glass of water, preferably with a meal. Do not halve, crush, or chew the tablets. If symptoms are worst at night or in the morning, it's best to take the medicine in the evening.

Important

Do not exceed 150 mg per day.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Voltaren Retard if you have heart disease or a stroke, such as a heart attack, or if you've had surgery for these conditions. This includes circulation problems.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to diclofenac or similar painkillers (like ibuprofen) and have had an allergic reaction, such as asthma, chest pain, rash, or swelling. If you suspect an allergy, ask your doctor.
  • Do not use if you have repeated stomach ulcers, bleeding in the digestive tract, severe kidney, liver, or heart disease, or if you are in the last three months of pregnancy.
  • To minimize side effects, use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration of treatment.
  • Medicines like Voltaren may slightly increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, especially with high doses and long-term use. Talk to your doctor if you have risk factors for heart disease (e.g., high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking).

  • If you experience chest pain, peeling skin, blisters, mouth sores, or swelling of the skin, face, or throat, contact your doctor immediately as these can be serious allergic reactions.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. For short-term use only. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Increases swelling, worsens renal and heart failure and causes cardiovascular events. Increases risk of bleeding, especially in the gastrointestinal tract.
