How to Use

Dosage

One inhalation

Method

Breathe the medicine into your lungs through your mouth. Rinse your mouth with water after use to prevent thrush.

Important

Do not take more than your doctor prescribes, usually twice a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • More colds (in COPD patients)
  • Thrush (sore, creamy-yellow raised patches) in the mouth and throat, sore tongue, hoarseness, and irritated throat.
  • Aching, swollen joints and muscle pain.
  • Muscle cramps
  • Bruising and fractures (in COPD patients)
  • Sinus infection (in COPD patients)
  • Low potassium levels in the blood, which can cause irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, or cramps (in COPD patients)
RARE
  • High blood sugar levels
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens)
  • Very fast heartbeat
  • Tremors (shaking) and fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Chest pain
  • Anxiety (mainly in children)
  • Sleep problems
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Worsening breathing or wheezing right after using Seretide
  • Effects on steroid hormones, possibly slowing growth in children/teens, bone thinning, glaucoma, weight gain, or moon face (Cushing's syndrome).
  • Behavior changes, such as being overly active or irritable (mainly in children).
  • Irregular heart rhythm or extra heartbeats
  • Thrush in the esophagus (gullet), causing difficulty swallowing

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Seretide if you are allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or lactose monohydrate.
  • This medicine is not for sudden breathing problems. Always have a fast-acting inhaler with you for emergencies.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Seretide if you have heart problems, overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes, low potassium, tuberculosis, or other lung infections.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision changes.
  • Do not stop using Seretide suddenly or reduce the dose without talking to your doctor, as this can worsen your breathing.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Potentiates sympathomimetic effects. May cause hypokalaemia. (updated 15.5.2023)
