How to Use

Dosage

Take one 10 mg or 20 mg tablet once daily, or as directed by your doctor.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew or crush it.

Important

Your doctor will tell you your maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infections
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Cough, runny nose, or sore throat
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, gas, nausea, vomiting, or constipation
  • Aches or back pain
  • Weakness or flu-like symptoms
  • Benign stomach polyps
RARE
  • Feeling nervous or drowsy
  • Bronchitis or sinus infection
  • Dry mouth
  • Indigestion or belching
  • Skin rash or redness
  • Muscle, leg, or joint pain
  • Hip, wrist, or spine fractures
  • Bladder infection (urinary tract infection)
  • Chest pain, chills, or fever
  • Changes in liver function (seen in blood tests)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Depression
  • Vision problems
  • Sore mouth or taste changes
  • Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice)
  • Sweating
  • Kidney problems
  • Weight gain
  • Changes in white blood cells or platelets (may lead to more infections, easy bruising, or bleeding)
  • Swollen breasts in men
  • Fluid retention in the body
  • Inflammation of the intestines (leading to diarrhea)
  • Low blood sodium levels (causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitches, seizures, or coma)
  • Brain disorder (encephalopathy) in very rare cases, especially if you have had liver problems.
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood (may cause tiredness, involuntary muscle movements, confusion, seizures, dizziness, or increased heart rate).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Pariet if you are allergic to rabeprazole, other similar medicines (proton pump inhibitors), or any other ingredients in Pariet.
  • Do not take Pariet if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or a tumor in your stomach.
  • Inform your doctor if you have had a skin reaction to a similar medicine or if you develop a rash, especially in areas exposed to sunlight.
  • Stop taking Pariet and contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe diarrhea (watery or bloody) with fever or stomach pain.

  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction (sudden facial swelling, trouble breathing, low blood pressure, fainting), frequent infections (like a sore throat or high fever), easy bruising/bleeding, or severe blistering/sores on your skin or in your mouth/throat.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with clopidogrel and (es)citalopram. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
