How to Use

Dosage

Method

A healthcare professional inserts the implant under the skin on the inner side of your non-dominant upper arm using local anesthetic.

Important

One implant protects against pregnancy for up to three years.

Important Warnings

  • Nexplanon does not protect you against HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to etonogestrel or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had a blood clot (thrombosis).
  • Do not use if you have or have had jaundice, severe liver disease, or a liver tumor.
  • Do not use if you have or have had breast cancer or cancer of the reproductive organs.

  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Regularly check your breasts and contact a doctor if you find any lumps; also tell your doctor if close relatives have had breast cancer.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe abdominal pain.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you notice signs of a blood clot.
  • Contact a doctor if your menstrual bleeding is very heavy or prolonged.
  • If you can't feel the implant at any time, contact a healthcare professional immediately.
  • If you experience mood changes or symptoms of depression, contact a doctor.
  • Do not use Nexplanon if you are pregnant or suspect you might be; take a pregnancy test before starting if you are unsure.
