How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 10 mg. If you take propranolol or have kidney or liver problems, take 5 mg.

Method

Open the blister with dry hands and place the tablet on your tongue. It will dissolve and can be swallowed with saliva. You can take it without water if liquids cause nausea.

Important

Do not take more than two doses in a 24-hour period. Always wait at least two hours between doses.

  • Dizziness or spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Blurred vision
  • Tremor
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Confusion
  • Nervousness
  • High blood pressure
  • Thirst
  • Hot flashes
  • Sweating
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Hives (raised itchy rash)
  • Swelling of face, lips, tongue, and/or throat (angioedema), which may cause breathing or swallowing difficulties
  • Shortness of breath
  • Feeling of tightness in some body parts
  • Muscle weakness
  • Changes in heart rhythm or rate (arrhythmia)
  • Abnormal EKG (a test that measures the heart's electrical activity)
  • Very fast heartbeats (tachycardia)
  • Face pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Wheezing
  • Allergic reaction
  • Sudden, life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Stroke
  • Slow heartbeats (bradycardia)
  • Heart attack
  • Spasms in the heart's blood vessels
  • Serotonin syndrome (can cause unconsciousness, unstable blood pressure, very high body temperature, problems with muscle movement, anxiety, and seeing/hearing things that aren't real)
  • Severe skin peeling, with or without fever (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Convulsions (seizures)
  • Blood vessel spasms in arms and legs, including coldness and numbness in hands and feet
  • Blood vessel spasms in the large intestine, which can cause stomach pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to rizatriptan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have moderate to severe high blood pressure, or mild high blood pressure that is not treated.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have or have had heart problems, including a heart attack or chest pain.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver or kidney disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA).

  • Do not take this medicine if you have problems with blood clots in your arteries (peripheral vascular disease).
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking certain antidepressants called MAO inhibitors (like moclobemide, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, pargyline, or linezolid) or if you have stopped taking them less than two weeks ago.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking ergotamine-like medicines (like ergotamine or dihydroergotamine) for migraine or methysergide to prevent migraine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking other triptan medicines for migraine, such as sumatriptan, naratriptan, or zolmitriptan.
  • Talk to your doctor if you use herbal products containing St. John's Wort.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had allergic reactions like swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can make it hard to breathe or swallow.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking certain antidepressants called SSRIs (like sertraline, escitalopram, fluoxetine) or SNRIs (like venlafaxine, duloxetine).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had short-lived chest pain or tightness in your chest.
  • Using Maxalt Rapitab too often can lead to chronic headaches. If this happens, talk to your doctor.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or dizzy. Do not drive or use machines if you feel this way.
