How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose for adults is ½ to 4 tablets (250–2000 mg) per day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole or divided on an empty stomach, at least one hour before eating or two hours after eating. Drink with a glass of water or other liquid.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose for adults is 4 tablets (2000 mg).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dehydration (body drying out)
  • Electrolyte imbalances (low levels of potassium, magnesium, sodium, or calcium)
  • Acid-base imbalance (hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis)
RARE
  • Worsening blood sugar control
  • High uric acid in blood (hyperuricemia), gout
  • Changes in blood fat levels
  • Reduced blood volume, low blood pressure
  • Restlessness, dizziness, headache, sensory and visual disturbances
  • Hearing loss (sometimes permanent)
  • Heart rhythm disorders
  • Dry mouth, constant thirst, nausea, bowel problems, muscle cramps
  • Urination problems, urinary retention
  • Weakness, fatigue
  • Bone marrow dysfunction
  • Loss of white blood cells (leukopenia, agranulocytosis)
  • Reduced blood cell production (aplastic anemia)
  • Anemia due to premature breakdown of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia)
  • Loss of platelets
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus), hearing impairment
  • Vascular, kidney, or pancreatic inflammation, bile duct obstruction
  • Rashes, photosensitivity
  • Fever

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to furosemide, sulfonamides (sulfa antibiotics), sulfonylureas (medicines for diabetes), or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if your kidneys work normally.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver failure that sometimes leads to hepatic coma (unconsciousness due to liver problems).
  • Do not take if you have a fluid or salt imbalance in your body, such as dehydration or low sodium or potassium levels.
  • Do not take if you cannot urinate or if urination stops for an unknown reason.
