Curosurf is used to treat premature babies who have or are at risk of having serious breathing problems called Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS).
The usual dose is 1.25 to 2.5 ml per kg of body weight (100-200 mg/kg), given directly into the baby's lungs. Extra doses of 1.25 ml/kg (100 mg/kg) may be given 6 to 12 hours after the first dose, and then again after another 12 hours if needed.
This medicine is given by a trained healthcare professional directly into the baby's lungs through a breathing tube. The bottle is warmed to room temperature and gently turned upside down to mix, not shaken.
The maximum total dose per day is 3.75 to 5.0 ml per kg of body weight (300-400 mg/kg).
