Cerazette is a birth control pill containing only one hormone, progestin, used to prevent pregnancy by mainly stopping sperm from reaching the womb and often preventing egg release.

How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet daily.

Method

Take one tablet at about the same time each day, swallowed whole with water; start a new pack the day after the old one finishes, without a break.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Mood changes, feeling down, decreased sex drive.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea (feeling sick).
  • Acne.
  • Tender breasts, irregular periods or no periods.
  • Weight gain.
RARE
  • Vaginal infection.
  • Difficulty wearing contact lenses.
  • Vomiting.
  • Hair loss.
  • Painful periods, ovarian cysts (fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries).
  • Tiredness.
  • Skin reactions like rash, hives, or painful reddish-purple lumps on the skin.
  • Allergic reaction.
  • Breast discharge.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to desogestrel or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have or have had a blood clot (thrombosis). Contact a doctor immediately if you experience severe leg pain/swelling, unexplained chest pain, shortness of breath, or unusual cough with blood.
  • Do not use if you have or have had jaundice or severe liver disease where liver function is not yet normal. Contact a doctor immediately if you experience sudden, severe stomach pain or yellow skin/eyes.
  • Do not use if you have or are suspected of having cancer affected by sex hormones, such as certain types of breast cancer. Check your breasts regularly and contact a doctor if you find a lump.
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding. Contact a doctor if you experience unusual, heavy vaginal bleeding.

  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience sudden, severe lower abdominal pain (may be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy, where the pregnancy is outside the womb).
  • If you will be bedridden or need major surgery, consult your doctor at least four weeks beforehand.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or suspect you are pregnant.
  • Cerazette contains lactose (milk sugar). Consult your doctor before starting Cerazette if you have an intolerance to some sugars.
