How to Use
Dosage
Your doctor or nurse will give you Aggrastat as an infusion (drip) into a vein. The exact dose depends on your weight and medical condition.
Method
This medicine is given directly into a vein through a drip (intravenously).
Important
The total treatment time should not be longer than 108 hours (4.5 days). Your doctor will decide how long you need it.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Bleeding after surgery
- •Bleeding under the skin at the injection spot, or bleeding in a muscle causing swelling
- •Small red bruises on the skin
- •Blood in urine or stool that you can't see
- •Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea)
- •Headache
- •Blood in urine
- •Coughing up blood
- •Nosebleed
- •Bleeding from gums or mouth
- •Bleeding from where the needle was inserted
- •A drop in red blood cells (anemia), making you feel tired
- •Low platelet count (below 90,000 cells/mm³)
- •Fever
RARE
- •Bleeding in the stomach or intestines
- •Vomiting blood
- •Very low platelet count (below 50,000 cells/mm³)
- •Bleeding in the head or brain
- •A bruise (hematoma) that presses on your spinal cord
- •Bleeding in the belly or other internal organs
- •Blood collecting around the heart (pericardial effusion)
- •Bleeding in the lungs
- •Sudden and severe drop in platelet count (below 20,000 cells/mm³)
- •Severe allergic reactions, including chest tightness, rash, hives, trouble breathing, and dizziness
Important Warnings
- Do not use Aggrastat if you are allergic to tirofiban or any other ingredient in this medicine.
- Do not use Aggrastat if you have internal bleeding now or have had it in the past 30 days.
- Do not use Aggrastat if you have had bleeding in your brain, a brain tumor, or unusual blood vessels in your brain.
- Do not use Aggrastat if you have very high blood pressure that is not controlled.
- Do not use Aggrastat if you have a low number of platelets (cells that help blood clot) or other blood clotting problems.

- Do not use Aggrastat if you had a stroke in the past 30 days or a stroke that involved bleeding in your brain.
- Do not use Aggrastat if you have had a serious injury or major surgery in the last 6 weeks.
- Do not use Aggrastat if you have severe liver disease.
