How to Use

Dosage

Method

This medicine is always given slowly into a vein as an infusion by a qualified healthcare professional. You will not administer this medicine yourself.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Inflammation along the vein used for the infusion.
  • Feeling unwell or sick.
  • Itchy, bumpy rash similar to hives.
  • Skin reaction after exposure to light (photosensitivity).
  • Itchiness.
  • Swelling, redness, and soreness at the injection site.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests).
  • Increased blood urea and creatinine levels (seen in blood tests).
RARE
  • Nosebleeds and bruising more easily due to fewer platelets.
  • Reduced energy, weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations, and paleness (anemia).
  • Reduced white blood cells (leukopenia), which can make you more prone to infections.
  • Reduced platelets (thrombocytopenia).
  • Sweating.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness.
  • Diarrhea or stomach pain.
  • Tiredness.
  • Fever.
  • Inflammation at the injection site.
  • Feeling agitated or confused (psychosis).
  • Tremor or shaking.
  • Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not real).
  • Seizures.
  • Unusual tiredness or sleepiness.
  • Unsteady walking and lack of coordination (ataxia).
  • Speech difficulties or hoarseness (dysarthria).
  • Inability to think or reason clearly or concentrate.
  • Unconsciousness (coma).
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Behavioral, speech, and movement disorders.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice).
  • Kidney problems, where little or no urine is passed (including blood in urine), or pain in the lower back, at the kidneys, or slightly above the hip (kidney pain).
  • Brain damage or brain dysfunction (encephalopathy), which appears as changes in mental state.
  • Thirst.
  • Low blood pressure (may cause dizziness when standing up).
  • Breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis).
  • Small vessel problems (leukocytoclastic vasculitis).
  • Tingling or numbness.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to aciclovir, valaciclovir, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, are over 65 years old, or have a weakened immune system, as your dose may need adjustment.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel drowsy or tired, as this medicine can affect your concentration and reactions.
  • It is very important to drink water regularly during treatment, especially if you are over 65 or have kidney problems, to help reduce side effects.
